Challenge

Why the project was needed.

Smith & Williamson relied primarily on its Google Business presence and third-party trade listings. It had no dedicated website where homeowners and commercial customers could understand its services, review previous work, and make an enquiry.

The starting material included a competitor reference and a collection of unorganised project photographs. Requirements and content decisions had to develop iteratively around the client’s availability.

Contribution

George’s contribution.

George identified the opportunity and approached Smith & Williamson with the proposal. He led discovery, information architecture, visual direction, content modelling, development, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.

The client supplied the photography and retained final approval over business copy and content. Layouts, architectural direction, and feature recommendations were proposed by George and reviewed collaboratively.

Approach

How it was built.

  1. 01

Researched the company’s existing Google Business and verified trade profiles to recover useful starting information.

  2. 02

Used the client’s preferred reference site as a starting point, then modernised its presentation and created a clearer structure around the company’s offerings.

  3. 03

Organised services into dedicated pages so residential and commercial visitors could understand individual areas of work.

  4. 04

Turned loosely described projects and unorganised photographs into a structured, filterable project catalogue.

  5. 05

Used image-led layouts to make completed installations the primary evidence of the company’s work.

  6. 06

Added FAQs to answer recurring customer questions before an enquiry.

  7. 07

Built a validated quote form with server-side email delivery, giving customers a direct route from browsing services to contacting the business.

  8. 08

Modelled services, projects, and FAQs as structured TypeScript content, keeping the site maintainable without introducing a CMS.

  9. 09

Moved the production site from a self-managed Docker, nginx, and Cloudflare environment to Vercel, simplifying ongoing operations.

Outcome

What can be verified.

Smith & Williamson now has an established online destination that it can direct prospective customers towards, rather than relying solely on third-party listings.

The site showcases completed work, explains the company’s services, handles frequently asked questions, and has generated genuine customer enquiries, including enquiries that progressed to quotes or completed work.

George continues to support the site through content changes, formatting improvements, and general maintenance. The client is happy with the new presence; a publishable testimonial remains pending.
